Here comes, Beautiful Creatures, another young adult supernatural romance film adapted from the first novel in the best-selling series by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl. This will get the obvious Twilight comparisons in many ways, but it’s not a rip off. Casting seems to be done in the same way though with two relatively unknown actors in lead roles. Even the lead actor was originally British (Jack O’Connell) until he was replaced right before filming began with Alden Ehrenreich. This was probably a good idea. The storyline follows Ethan (Ehrenreich), who is tired of living in the small southern town of Gatlin until new girl, Lena (Alice Englert) moves into town. They both are drawn to each other and soon discover dark secrets about the town and their own families. Considering the success of many paranormal romance books brought to film and television (Twilight, Vampire Diaries, True Blood, etc.), I’d say this will probably do well. The film also stars Jeremy Irons, Emma Thompson, Viola Davis and Emmy Rossum. Set to release on February 13, 2013.
