It will become available on February 27, 2015 via Massive Entertainment/Universal Music NZ. If you want a sneak peek, you’re in luck. Have a listen to “Special” above (available worldwide on iTunes) and check out the track, “So High“, here. We can’t wait to hear the album in its entirety! What about you?
We got the chance to chat with our newest favorite band, Six60. The New Zealand band are a big deal back in their home country and soon enough that will happen for them here in the states. Six60 geniusly mixes rock, dubstep, soul and reggae into their music and the outcome is glorious.
Enjoy the interview with these down to earth guys and be sure to check out some of their tracks (“Forever“, “Run For It“, and “Don’t Forget Your Roots” are favorites of ours!). If you’re already a fan, props to you for being ahead of the game. Watch the guys talk about who they would kidnap for a day, what they wouldn’t do for any amount of money and more in the interview above!
If you weren’t able to catch New Zealand band, Six60 last year on their first US tour dates then you are in luck. The guys are coming back this month to play a few dates in San Francisco (3/9), Los Angeles (3/10), Austin (3/12-3/17 for SXSW!) and New York City (3/24). They even have a couple of dates in Canada (3/19 – 3/23). If you were able to catch them last time, then I’m sure you’re ready for a repeat performance.
Six60 makes ground breaking music and I can’t wait for them to catch on in the states. Their live show is incredible and like any good show you leave wanting more. So check out all the dates here and get your tickets!
Listen to one of my favorite tracks, “Run For It“, below:
New Zealand’s Gin Wigmore released her Mercury Records debut single, “Man Like That” this month. It’s the first single off her Man Like That EP and it’s featured in the Heineken TV spot promoting the new James Bond film, Skyfall. She has gone multi-Platinum in her home country and now she’s getting ready to release her sophomore album, Gravel & Wine in the US early next year. Gin recorded the album in Santa Monica, CA with producer Butch Walker (Pink, Cee-Lo, Katy Perry, Gavin DeGraw).
“Man Like That” is insanely catchy and Gin Wigmore has an old soul sound mixed with that raspy rocker grit that you don’t want to miss out on. Some may want to compare her to a young British artist that is no longer with us, but that just wouldn’t be fair to either of them. For the visually inclined, the music video has that retro meets modern feel that works very well with the song. See for yourself above.
Live in LA? Are you a fan of Six60? Or do you like to discover new music? We’ve got two pairs of tickets to give away for Six60’s upcoming show in LA at the Bootleg Bar on 10/7. Catch the New Zealand band at their only LA tour stop before they head back home and you miss out on this awesome band. Email us at firstname.lastname@example.org with why you should win the tickets or tweet us @popzineonline.
