[The Breakdown]
Canadian band, Smashing Satellites just released their debut EP, SonicAluzion (A-Side). and it is all kinds of awesome. I was first impressed with Smashing Satellites after watching their music video for “Hounds“, which I found to be so exciting and fun because of its strangeness. The coolest aspect of Smashing Satellites is that their music transcends genres. While most would categorize them strictly as alternative, there are also hints of pop-rock and electro that really make them stand apart. Not only are their visuals (see the EP cover above and the music video for “Hounds”) creative, but it is also shows in their music.
The EP is a roller coaster of emotions starting off with a bang with “Waterfall” and then goes to a more serious tone with “Taste of Fame” before bringing things back to solid ground with, “Hounds.” Each and every song on the EP is so descriptive and intense. At times the lyrics are angst filled, but yet they still manage to give an overwhelming feeling of empowerment. Smashing Satellites knew what they were doing in order to make a debut EP that would grab the attention of listeners.
So listen.
