This show was on Halloween and knowing how these guys are I knew were all going to be in for a surprise. Most of the people that attended didn’t wear a costume, but lucky for us most of the bands did. I caught the end of The Summer Set who were all dressed as Disney characters. After their last song, the crowd eagerly awaited All Time Low.
Alex, Jack, Zack and Rian came out dressed as Jack Skellington, Batman (Adam West style), a wrestler (don’t ask me which), and himself, respectively. They jumped right into the music and the constant stage banter between Alex and Jack in between songs definitely added a comical element to their show.
The best part though is Alex’s awesome vocals. Song after song you get lost in his voice until a bra is thrown on stage and you’re kicked back into reality. I also love the energy that they exude. These guys are constantly moving and jumping all over the place with the crowd responding in kind. But let’s face it; these guys have a cult following, so it’s only natural that all of those in attendance are enthusiastic and know every single lyric.
Cassadee Pope was in attendance and sang “Remembering Sunday” with them from backstage as she’s not allowed to do public appearances while on The Voice. Instead they had someone from their crew dressed up, in who knows what, pretending to sing on stage. It was funny, made the song complete and still followed the rules.
The band mostly sang tracks from So Wrong, It’s Right, Nothing Personal and their newest album, Don’t Panic. Their set list included (in no particular order): “The Reckless and the Brave”, “Shameless”, “Remembering Sunday”, “Therapy”, “Damned If I Do Ya (Damned If I Don’t)”, “If These Sheets Were States”, “Weightless”, “Lost in Stereo”, “Somewhere in Neverland”, “Coffee Shop Soundtrack”, and “Dear Maria, Count Me In” among others.
Overall, this was the first time I was able to catch a full set from these guys and I was thoroughly impressed at how amazing they sounded, their energy and of course their onstage shenanigans. Their Halloween costumes were an added bonus, but regardless of what they wear I can’t wait to catch another show.
