The Sound of Music Soundtrack just released their 45th Anniversary edition which includes updated liner notes, exclusive photos and a brand new bonus recording of “My Favorite Things” sung by Lea Michele of Glee and presented by Dove Hair Care.
The Sound of Music film and its musical compositions are iconic and thus a necessity to own for all those who have been touched by this uplifting musical. Most fans know that the music is originally by Richard Rodgers and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II and the numbers are sung by Julie Andrews and the rest of The Sound of Music cast.
All the favorites are included on the soundtrack including: “Sixteen Going On Seventeen”, “My Favorite Things”, “Do-Re-Mi”, “The Sound of Music”, “Edelweiss”, “So Long, Farewell” and “Climb Ev’ry Mountain”. There are a total of 25 tracks including the bonus track of “My Favorite Things” by Lea Michele.
As I stated above, one of the new additions to this edition is another rendition of “My Favorite Things” by the talented Lea Michele. Because “My Favorite Things” is a classic song it is hard to imagine any other version coming close to being as great as the original, but fans of Glee know that Lea Michele is an amazing singer. Her take of “My Favorite Things” is fulfilling to say the least. My only complaint is that it is only one minute in length as opposed to the original which is approximately two minutes. I believe that Lea recorded the song for Dove Hair Care and it was used in their commercial which is the likely reason for it not being longer than the length for a promotional spot. However, not just anyone gets added to a soundtrack like this and Lea Michele definitely deserves that honor.
The updated liner notes and exclusive photos included are very extensive. There are pictures of the cast recording on the 20th Century Fox soundstage, behind the scenes pictures and of course pictures from on set. Along with the original 1965 LP liner notes, there is a few pages with the history of the Broadway musical and its journey to film. This includes when filming began, casting decisions, rehearsal information and more Sound of Music trivia.
Overall, The Sound of Music Soundtrack, 45th Anniversary deluxe edition is a fantastic addition to any music lover’s collection and a must have for fans of The Sound of Music or of musicals in general. The songs on the soundtrack are timeless and will continue to bring joy to each new generation.
